Kenechukwu N. P. Umeh (Nee Udeorji)

Popularly known as 'Kenny'.

Kenny, is a Mentor, Creative Skills Educator, Early Years Practitioner, Childhood and Youth Worker, Health and Nutritionist Coach, Educational Technologist, Agriculturist, Certified Carbon Literate, Sustainable Fashion Designer and a mum of four.

She holds a degree in Childhood and Youth Studies from the Open University UK.

She holds a Masters degree in Digital Technology Communication and Education from the University of Manchester, UK.

She works with communities and groups to deliver project which allows people interact, socialise and improve their wellbeing, become more climate and environmental conscious while learning new helpful skills.

Kenny is a renowned Creative Skills Educator and Community Climate Action Coordinator, with over 13 years of sustainable fashion experience to her credit.

 

Her passion for community development, fashion and climate change has led to the various projects she delivers city wide which promotes sustainable sewing.

 

Kenny has been working with various communities and groups delivering Social Sustainable fashion project which is centred around tackling climate change by reducing all types of textile waste where they are repaired, upcycled/refashioned and find them new home.

 

She has trained group of women who now deliver and train others to develop skills around sustainable fashion. This includes the Moss Side Social Stitching group; Wythenshawe sustainable sewing; Fallowfield Sustainable sewing, etc.

 

These projects aim to support Manchester with its Net-Zero 2038 target, as by reducing the number of new textile-products purchased and textile waste sent to landfill, they will be reducing the fashion sector carbon emissions

 

These projects also brings both social and environmental benefits by promoting community connections, improving wellbeing, confidence and providing skills and training while raising awareness about the environmental impact of textile waste and fast fashion, including practical ways in which residents can reduce their everyday individual carbon footprint.

 

Kenny  has partnered with Manchester City Council (MCC), Manchester Climate Change Agency (MCCA), In Our Nature (ION), BUZZ Manchester Health and Wellbeing Service, Jigsaw Homes, One Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University,  Chrysalis Manchester etc to deliver successful sustainable fashion workshops in Moss-Side (Powerhouse, Our Lady’s & Connecting Steps), Fallowfield (The place), Hulme (Aquarius & Ascension), Wythenshawe (Dandelion), Didsbury (The Scout) with previous involvement in the Sustainability Fairs which have taken place at Chorlton Central (Eco) Church, and Emmaus South Manchester Emporium, Wythenshawe, Withington Methodist Church, etc.

 

Kenny is also a certified carbon literate.

She also works with a health and nutrition company (Saladmaster) to help lead the movement back to healthy home cooking.

Kenny leads from the front, whilst maintaining a highly visible and accessible presence.
